Bennet’s Harbor is only about ten nautical miles north of The Cove, but the other anchorages in between, didn’t seem to have any way to get on land by dinghy.
There’s a gorgeous beach and very cute houses along the beach at Bennett’s Harbor as well as a government dock for the mailboat. Most of the houses seem to be vacation homes and for rent, but well kept, relatively new and pretty.
A few hundred yards from the government dock is the small town with an elementary school, library, gas station and a shop/liquor store and a small conch stand that only sells conch salad in the mornings. I wouldn’t suggest this town for major provisioning, but there certainly are some essentials if you’re in a pinch.
We walked around the back side of the beach to where the houses were, and nothing seemed to be in disrepair.
The creek was once again really pretty with lots of mangroves, crystal clear water and many branches that you could follow. We ended up in a few dead ends, but you just turn around and follow another branch.
We didn’t stay long at Bennett’s Harbor because our time was getting short and we still wanted to see many islands and anchorages before we head back to Florida for the hurricane season.
