My husband, Andre and I are both retired and cruise on our sailboat, Mama-Wana, for large parts of the year. I am 67 and Andre is 63 years old. Our boat is a 1978 Morgan OI, 41ft ketch rig. We have sailed more than 8,000 miles over the last 13 years and intend on keeping it up for as long as we can manage physically. We are both blessed with very good health, but we are also very much aware of the fact that anything can change any day.

The aim with our blog is to encourage other “older” people to follow their dreams but also to share real life experiences as we understand the challenges of not being as young and as pretty as most of the cruisers on YouTube are. We do not believe it is necessary to “sell everything” and jump into the blissful, carefree life of sailing and cruising the islands and beyond. We do believe that it is very possible to enjoy a carefree life in retirement by maybe not getting the most expensive and newest boat available. Contrary to what is sold on the internet, it is definitely possible to live on an older boat and have the time of your life.

I don’t ever want this blog to be thought of as a debate between which is better, a catamaran or a monohull – I simply want to share our experiences which happen to be on a monohull.
