Tom’s Rocks to Alabaster Bay

This little sail was only about four miles, but again, with light winds and a calm sea, it was a very enjoyable time and we once more thought it went by too quickly.

The boat looks so far away, but the sand banks end close to where she lies.

The Bay have a large beach with sand banks going far into the ocean. Thank goodness for depth sounders because on high tide one could easily get stuck as the beach still looks so far away;-). After anchoring, we got off the boat and swam to shore towing the dinghy behind us. Although it looked quite far, we knew that within a short distance we’ll probably be able to stand up in the water.

There were hundreds of old, worn and broken conch shells lining the beach but we couldn’t figure out where so many would’ve come from. With the large sand banks sheltering the beach and no sign of any live conch on the sand banks, it was hard to imagine where they could’ve come from – all were small to medium size.

People enjoyed hanging out on the sand banks and posing for all sorts of pictures. We even had a singer with a guitar who set up her video camera and then came singing and dancing out of the water towards the camera.

More new construction right on the beach.
Our lovely singer.

There are also a few small beautiful new resorts right on the sand and they had some activities during the evening which seemed nice.

Small resort on the sand.

We took a long walk on the beach, had a lovely BBQ on a grill that we found on the beach and then went to snorkel on the nearby rocks.

Lovely spot for a BBQ

It was a surprisingly nice snorkel although the water was not as clear as we had become accustomed to. We did spot a ray that just floated by peacefully and then later on a spotted eagle ray came by and literally squeezed me out of the way to go in between the rocks.

Ray that just floated by uninterested in us.
Spotted eagle ray.
